The past two days have been crazy busy. I've put in ike 10 hours of work each day. YIKES. On Tuesday I had a work meeting in Salt Lake and the U hospital. I met up with my friend jaimie after for a little bit because I could. haha

Yesterday I got home from work at 7pm. I had to finish something up at the UDOH office before I could go home. I GOT IT DONE!!! so pretty much I don't have to go up there unless I NEED to meet with someone, which means I probly wont go for at least another month. WOOHOO. No more wasting 3 hours a day on the frontrunner.

I made delicious chicken burrito bowls for dinner and Travis and I watched some parks and rec and just hung out until he had to leave for his soccer game. I finished up some work and created some graduation announcements to send out (WHHHAATT??) yeah graduation is like a month away. WEIRD.

I am feeling better!!!!!!!!! FINALLY.

I was able to get a ton of work done today. I worked on stuff for all of my 3 jobs. I am totally getting back on schedule! I left work a little early today because I have to attend a meeting in salt lake at the University of Utah Hospital tomorrow. I came home, did more work and Travis made a DELICIOUS dinner. I am so lucky to have a husband that is totally on the same page of sharing responsibilities at home with me. He even admitted to me that he likes cooking! :)

Check out the enchilada recipe we used here. Delicious and super easy.

Tonight was also the finale of the Bachelor. Which was hilarious. Adrienne came to celebrate the hilarious drama that is the bachelor. I love how Juan Pablo and Nikki think they are going to get privacy in their relationship when it started on a TV show, good luck.

After Travis' parents came over to watch the BYU game. BYU won so that is exciting! I worked during the game since I could care less. haha

Feeling a little full of dreams today

As I was listening to this song today I started thinking about the mark I want to leave on the world.

I want to make the world a better place (as naive as that may sound, I believe everyone can have that level of influence). I have always wanted to do something important that makes peoples lives better. I don't need to be recognized for whatever it is I do, but I do want the satisfaction of knowing that I have had some part in making peoples lives better.

How am I going to make a difference? I don't know. 2 years ago I thought I knew what I would be doing. I was going to change the health of those in the US by being a lobbyist for healthy policies in DC. My life has changed a lot since then.

I no longer have the faith I used to in traditional public health. I guess that happens when you get thrust into the real world and work for the state for a year. I now have a job with a healthcare company. Unexpected to say the least.

  • Will my big change be in ensuring that patients have confidence and are less scared about their treatment plans? maybe, I think the world of healthcare is extremely intimidating and complicated for patients trying to navigate it, especially in extreme health circumstances.
  • Will my big change come through advocacy work I do with tobacco policy in Utah with youth? maybe, The policies may take years to change, but working with youth can be instantly rewarding and life changing.
  • Will the social venture company I am working with a team on be my big contribution? maybe, it has the potential to impact the lives of the poor in my community and empower them to improve their own health.
  • Will my contribution be to my own family as a sister, daughter, wife and mother? possibly, I think this is where people have the biggest potential for impact. I want to be the best I can in all of those roles.
  • Will my chance be in helping women realize their worth through important body image campaigns and gender role debates? Could be. I hope everyone by the end of my life understands my deep commitment to pushing forward women's issues that allow women to do what they want and be who they are. Everyone deserves to live out their dreams in this life whatever those may be, and the current culture doesn't allow all women to do this without scorn, objectification, and inequality.

I don't know what my future holds. I don't know how I will make a difference. All I know is that I will. The specific issues I support may change, but I always want my focus to be on helping make other peoples lives better.

I am still sick, coughing up a storm so I didn't go to church today. The good news is that our internet and TV went out during the 3 hours by myself.... gah. what did people do before internet??? just kidding. haha

I worked on thank you notes and got ready for the day. After Travis got home we took a nap and headed over to my parents. My mom is out of town so my dad cooked. I was so impressed. I don't think he has cooked for us, like a real meal for probably 5 years. It turned out to be delicious, bad move dad now we know you are capable.

We hung out with my family (Crocket, paper football, and mini door basketball were some of the activities of the night) and Travis made chocolate chip cookies with my moms new kitchen aid. She got silver. Who gets silver when they pick out such a beautiful appliance? BORING. part of the charm are all the fun color options.

Anyways, we got home and put laundry away and went to bed. Sort of. We ended up talking for a couple of hours about all sorts of random stuff. I love my husband so much. I also love our accidental long late night talks :)
